Financial Messaging Specialist
Marshall Wolfe
About the Role
Financial Messaging Specialist Central London
We are looking for a technically-minded candidate to join a highly skilled team working with our world-leading messaging and transformation engine. The role requires computing experience, an analytical mind, and an interest in the financial services industry.
The Organisation
Marshall Wolfe are proud to be supporting a relatively small, friendly, flexible company with a strong reputation. You'll be joining a team of highly qualified and respected business and technical staff who we value highly. Our products have been developed and refined through many years of experience on financial messaging projects. Our clients include major financial institutions, service providers and application vendors. In order to conduct their business (trading, settling and confirming trades, etc.), our customers’ IT systems need to understand and process externally defined, industry-wide, messaging formats such as SWIFT (e.g. via their FIN message service), as well as the data formats required by their own internal systems. The Transformer Designer GUI makes it much easier to define and test rules to transform or ‘map’ data between the systems. Once tested, Transformer rules are deployed within the client’s runtime systems.
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting existing customers in their use of the product
Implementing and testing transformation and validation rules based on customer requirements
Updating existing rules to account for new business requirements and/or industry changes
Providing hand-over documentation for other team members and clients
Analysing industry messaging specifications and defining data structures to ensure that the information is correctly represented within the product
Working independently and with other team members to ensure all new/modified message and mapping rules are thoroughly tested
Working alongside the development team to test new product features and to provide feedback for future developments
Working alongside the pre-sales team to deliver Proof-of-Concept solutions for potential customers
For the right candidate, the role will also offer opportunities to:
Provide customer training around the globe
Develop technical skills in surrounding messaging technologies
Develop business analysis skills
Much of the work is conducted from the Central London offices, but some projects may require an on-site presence at the customer’s office, either in the UK or abroad. Project duration can vary from a few days through to many hundreds of days.
Skills and Competencies
Although the role does not involve coding, some previous experience of programming, scripting or testing would be highly advantageous, as would any experience with SQL and database technologies.
Essential competencies include:
ability to work independently and as part of a team (internally and with our customers)
high attention to detail
strong analytical and problem-solving skills
good communication skills
a pro-active attitude and a keenness to learn
a willingness to appreciate and understand our clients’ business needs
Knowledge and experience of the following areas, whilst not mandatory, would be beneficial:
XML/XML schema
JSON/JSON schema
SWIFT
ISO20022
Any exposure to data messaging technologies or data standards would be a distinct advantage, as would any experience within the financial industry as a whole. The applicant should be educated to degree-level (or equivalent) and a numeric/science-based education and/or background would be beneficial. They must be able to live and work freely in the UK.
Key Benefits
They are keen to maintain our high staff retention rate and we offer a range of benefits in addition to a competitive salary:
Subsidised gym membership
Active social club with regular subsidised social events
Employer pension contribution
Interest-free season ticket loans
Childcare voucher scheme
Subsidised eye tests and glasses
Bike2Work scheme
Enhanced maternity leave
Free life and health/disability cover
Company matched charity donations
